Uuuuuummmmm YES PLEASE 🙂
Whoever thought to mix the sweet, soft, gooey-ness of a bliss ball, with the smooth, rich and decadent outer choccy layer; is an absolute genius!!
This stunning combo was recently introduced to me while visiting the Krishna Village Eco Yoga Retreat. My fellow pregnant buddy and I were offered some on arrival, and it is safe to say we were hooked after our very first bite!! I just knew I had to recreate my own as soon as I got home.
Simo Says – Get in my pregnant belly – he he he
Sooooo of course the beauty-full base of these bliss balls are delicious all on their own too, but I highly suggest you go the extra mile and whack on the chocolate coating. And while you’re at it, go crazy on your topping selection also. Pretty food always tastes better in my eyes!! YUM 🙂
Chocolate Coated Bliss Balls
(Delicious / Decadent / Naughty but Nice / Cacao High)
*Makes about 20 juicy balls
The Base Ingredients
15 medjool dates, pitted and chopped *refer note
1 cup cashews
1/2 cup walnuts
2 tablespoons hemp seeds (or chia seeds)
1/4 cup desiccated (shredded) coconut
1/4 cup coconut oil (melted)
2 tablespoons raw cacao powder
*option to add raw honey, maple syrup or sweetener of choice (I personally think the dates are sweet enough, but see how you go!!)
*note: the softest, most juiciest dates are key here, that’s why I like medjool dates. You could however use pitted dried dates too, but MUST soften first by soaking them in boiling water 🙂
Choose your flavour:
Simply add your choice of the following to the bliss base:
Zesty Cinnamon Orange: 2 x teaspoons orange zest, 2 x teaspoons ground cinnamon, 4-6 drops orange essential oil (optional) 1 x teaspoon camu camu powder (optional)
Crunchy Choc Mint: – 2 tablespoons raw cacao nibs , 4-6 drops peppermint essential oil
Golden Ginger Zing: – 1 x teaspoon freshly grated ginger (or ground ginger), 2 x teaspoons ground turmeric, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence or powder, 2 drops lemon essential oil (optional)
Vanilla Rose – 2 x teaspoons rose water, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla essence or powder
Matcha Protein Power: 2 x teaspoons green tea matcha powder, 1 x tablespoon protein powder, 2 x teaspoons ground cinnamon, 1 x teaspoon maca powder
IMPORTANT INFO ALERT!! Please use only 100% pure, food grade essential oils from a reputable source (I support Twenty8 Essential Oils – woo) It’s best to start with the smallest amount of drops first, adding more in if necessary.
And if whacking on the toppings…
Chocolate Coating Ingredients:
100 grams of dark chocolate of choice ( my favourite is Loving Earth Dark Chocolate )
OR // make your own using raw cacao butter, raw cacao powder and preferred sweetener (check out this Raw Vegan Chocolate Recipe – super easy and D E L I S H )
Pretty Toppings Ingredients:
Choose from extra nuts and seeds (walnuts, pistachios, sesame seeds, hemp seeds), shredded coconut, dried rose petals, goji berries, bee pollen, orange / lemon zest or extra cacao nibs 🙂
1. Place the cashews and walnuts into your food processor and blitz until finely ground.
2. Add in the dates, hemp seeds, desiccated coconut, raw cacao, coconut oil and your choice of flavour combo. Blitz again until well combined and mixture sticks together in your hands.
(If the mix is too dry and crumbly, simply add in some more liquid like coconut oil or a dash of water. And alternatively if the mix is too wet, just add in some more nuts – easy done!!)
3. Roll into bite sized pieces and then place in the fridge for 20 – 30 minutes to set.
4. If coating and decorating, melt 100 grams of dark chocolate and roll each bliss ball into the chocolate and place on a flat baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Sprinkle on the toppings you desire, or leave them plain. Pop into the fridge for 1 more hour to set completely.
5. Holy freekin YUM BALLS 🙂
*Best stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days
*Or make a double batch and freeze some for later (now there’s a thought!!)
Enjoy the choccy hit guys!! All my love
